Just realised, this post is not as clear as I had hoped it would be, it wasn't meant to be a whining (entirely), but also a question.
Why do we always rate ourselves/lives/hobbies with other people's? that should make it a bit clearer.
I've been wondering lately, is there a reason that life is so crap? (If you're of a different opinion, just stop reading now)
It's just that, there's so much crap in life there must be a reason.
A cause.
One or more factors collaborating to make some crap.
And that's what life is. CRAP.
I am a 21 year old guy living in the middle of nowhere, with no hobbies other than video games. I am a 21 year old guy with no friends. I am 21 year old guy with such a nervous disposition that I shake uncontrollably at the mere thought of a confrontation (You should take that as literally as possible). Now, does that sound like A LIFE?
You think about the definitions you have heard for life from various sources and tell me this matches up. Because as far as I can tell, it doesn't. And why is it that whenever I ,(or someone like me, I can't be the only person in this situation), try or tries to change these crappy factors or REMOVE THEM ALTOGETHER, we just end up at square one? I think if I made a club or something it would be called "Square one". My last band was called Lost Cause. That was SIX years ago and nothing in my "life" has improved to the point of me having a "real" life.
Now what I'm wondering is, why do we base all our expectations of "happiness" and "satisfaction derived" on other people's experiences or current situations? "I see Bob has the "Better" version of (whatever). Mine's not that good! I must get something BETTER!" I'm sure all of us feel like this from time to time, but WHY is it so inherent? why does everyone INSTINCTUALLY react like this? It occurs most often in children, but adults have a slightly more subtle approach to the same issue, they just think it instead of screaming and crying like a child.
by the way, no "It'll get better" replies please. Those of you with similar dissatisfaction of what life is are welcome to post.

lunesca - good point, and that is actually what I was referring to. The human race, as a species, thinks itself so far above the "primitive instincts" and violent tendencies of lesser mammals. Yet there is no proof that this is actually the case. Sure, we invented religion (and killing in the name of), arts (like the art of war or designing new weapons) and of course, music (which these days is used by a weekly rap star to boast about how many "hoes" he has, or how many "homeboys" he gunned down to get to where he is).
By only acknowledging the desirable points to these fruits of labour, we completely ignore what we did to get them (and in large part, the effect they still have on us)
Our species seriously needs to consider lateral thinking in a world view context.
IDK why we do this but I do know if you are able to release yourself of this instinctual desire for even a moment you find great freedom..
